Learn and Grow

Mandala’s Academy are studio classes where beginners and returning students alike learn the technique and style of South Asian music and dance forms. Whether you’re pursuing a challenging, multi-level music education with your eye toward professional performance or you are simply keen to have fun and move to the diverse sounds and rhythms of South Asia, our Academy welcomes you as a new family member. Mandala offers Bharata Natyam, classical and Bollywood for youth and adults.

Many of our amazing Ensemble artists teach for the Academy, so you will be taught by the freshest and best talent around. Our instructors have been educated and trained by mentors from around the world. They are looking forward to sharing their love of South Asian dance and music with you.

Supervised by State of Illinois eight-time time master teacher award winner, Pranita Nayar, the Academy offers classes for children, teens, and adults at city and suburban locations. New virtual classes begin in January 2021, sign up for our free Bharat Natyam Open House classes for a discount for the Winter-Spring semester.

Youth Classes

Childhood is the best time to learn new languages—the language of Dance & Music should be no different! Instill a passion for movement and expression at an early age. Classes are currently being offered virtually to ensure safety for students, instructors and community members. In-person classes will resume at later date in Chicago (Fine Arts Building and Performing Arts Studio) and in Lombard.

Showcase a heritage, explore a variety of dance styles, train with new friends. Oh, and did we mention the costumes you get to wear at performance time?!

Studio Classes

Explore and indulge in classical Indian dance classes (Bharata Natyam). Learn gestures, postures, stories and movement. Embrace a tradition that you don’t encounter every day. Gain confidence, creativity and cultural awareness all through dance!

Some Mandala students begin studying Indian Dance when they’re teenagers, some start earlier and keep dancing. Mandala offers Bharata Natyam, classical contemporary and Bollywood for children of every age who want to explore and grow their love of movement and music.

Wedding Bootcamp

Father of the bride, do you find yourself doing the “shoulder bop” move on the dance floor over and over? Mother of the groom, are you having trouble doing the “booty shake” in your fancy dress? Guests, want to brush up your skills so you can wow the crowd? While weddings are a time of bliss and union, we all know that when the shoe falls it can be a battle on the dance floor!

Presenting Wedding Bootcamp, an extremely fast way to polish up those dance skills before the big day! We offer fast sessions for any type of choreography wedding event (Sangeet, Mehndi, Reception, Free Dance) and any style (Cross-Cultural Choreography, Bhangra, Garba, Bollywood, Giddha, Basic Moves) in less than a week!
