Konnakol (vocal percussion/beat boxing/nattuvangam) is an iconic art form, known for whirring, guttural syllables within Indian classical music.
In this class, you will learn the basics of time-keeping (taalam), rhythmic structures, and composition for Indian classical music. Fast paced call and response will call for interaction between students and teachers…and tongue twisters!
This class will be taught by Laksha Dantran. Laksha is a Bharatanatyam, Kuchupdi and Konnakol artist and has trained and taught at the prestigious Kalakshetra Foundation. She is a trans woman who has paved the way for LGBTQ artists in the classical Indian dance and music world with thought-provoking projects and artistic resilience.
This session lasts for 11 weeks and ends in a student performance on March 17th! Students will be expected to bring their own cymbals (kinnaram).
