Our story
Over the past four years, Mandala has offered free senior programs at social service centers that provide services seniors in South Asian communities, specifically in Chicago’s “Little India.” Our senior participants at the Indo-American Center on Devon Avenue have become family through Bollywood dance and music.
During the pandemic, our happy community became disconnected. As a response, Mandala began offering dance virtually to reconnect with our participants and the public. We found out that seniors and older adults from around the country were in need of melody, movement and uplifting! With the public health crisis still looming, the senior population will continue to face the brunt of disruptions. Mandala provides arts and culture outlets to seniors everywhere.
Program Offerings
Dance and Movement
Simple and energizing movement set to nostalgic Bollywood grooves, inspired by iconic South Asian folk and classical dance traditions, keeps bodies and minds limber and uplifted.y to reconnect with our participants and the public. Movements can be done in a seated or standing position.
Breathwork and Meditation
This relaxing and wellness-focused 30 minute session builds breathwork technique (Pranayama) and meditation (Dhayanama). This class is instructed by Yoga-certified educators.
All classes are designed for older adults and participants of all abilities. The exercises can be done at your chosen pace.
